Adventures

Living Forest is an ideal place to stay for nature and wildlife lovers. There are plenty of exotic birds, morpho butterflies, howler monkeys and other wildlife that visit us daily.

You can use us as a base and make day trips to many amazing sights. If you would like us to organize something for you, let us know. We are located halfway between Tilaran and Nuevo Arenal. Perfectly located for the region’s best day trips, we are about 1.5 hours away from La Fortuna, Rio Celeste at the Tenorio National Park, and Monteverde.

Here are a few examples of activities around Living Forest.

Volcano Arenal

The majestic and powerful volcano Arenal in La Fortuna is one of Costa Rica’s most revered attractions. The one hour drive from Living Forest along the lake through idyllic small villages and gorgeous views is definitely worthwhile. Not only do you get to see the volcano from close proximity, you also get magnificent views of the tropical jungle and abundant wildlife. There is a wealth of activities to choose from.

Hot springs

Because of the geothermal activity beneath volcano Arenal, there are many hot springs in the area. After strenuous yoga, a rigorous sport session, weariness from traveling or the stresses of life – what better way to relax than to let these healing waters work miracles on you!

Ziplining/Canopy tour

Zipping through the tropical rain forest high above the treetops seeing wildlife and fantastic views of Lake Arenal and volcano on the way – this is a winner as far as exciting adventures go! The equipment is of the highest standards and you have a well experienced staff assisting you. Let us know if you like us to book it for you.

Waterfalls

A 40-minute-drive will bring you to the Viento Fresco Waterfalls. After many steps on a well-maintained path you will come upon several waterfalls. You can cool off and have a swim in some of them. Horseback riding is a nice option, too.

A 45 minute drive in the direction of Liberia will take you to the waterfall “Llanos de Cortez.” This is one of the largest waterfalls in Costa Rica. On weekends it draws crowds of people, as it is popular among Costa Ricans too.

If you feel adventurous, let us know and we can guide you to another not as well known waterfall, about a 20-minute-drive further from Tilaran.

Rio Celeste

In the Tenerio Volcano National Park flows a beautiful blue-turquoise colored river: Rio Celeste. The unusual and enchanting color has to do with a chemical reaction caused by a constant flow of minerals supplied by the volcano. Local legend says that when God painted the sky, he washed his blue brushes in this river. The hike through the jungle gives you a chance to see some wildlife along the way. If you are not feeling up for the hike, there is an other location where you can directly swim in this magical blue river.

Rafting

Float down the Corobici river to see abundant wildlife, taking pictures along the way. There are a couple of rafting companies with different tours, times, and distances available. If you’re looking for a more action-packed experience, there are some hardcore possibilities as well.

Wind and kite surfing at Lake Arenal

The high wind season from November through April makes Lake Arenal an ideal location for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Living Forest is only 5 minutes away from the launch site. After an exhilarating day in the waves you will be tucked away from the wind in a comfortable setting in the midst of nature and wildlife in Living Forest Center. Click here for more information on wind and kite surfing at www.ticowind.com.

Horseback Riding

Ride through tranquil country roads, jungle paths and enjoy the lake view and wildlife along the way. We will be happy to arrange this for you!
